What & why

What are the strange post titles?
I like to leave mini reviews in library books. No more than three words usually, in the dates column. I just want to express my impression, to show that I cared enough to comment on the book. I'm giving a flavour, not a summary.

Why a graph?
Stars can be misleading. A three star book - well, what does that mean? Star ratings are often followed by an in-depth analysis of what makes it three stars (and, more often than not, an overuse of the word 'compelling'). My little graphs should demonstrate this more succinctly. I may adapt them as I go along. Please don't forget they represent my opinion.

What do you base your reviews on?
Call me a traditionalist, but what matters to me most is story and character. Of course I may appreciate an unusual style, applaud the skill needed to write in the future perfect, but did the story capture me? Did I enjoy it? That's what I base my reviews on.
