The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien
It was only on reading C.S. Lewis's critique that I realised how objective Tolkien's narrative is. We identify with the characters based on their circumstances and decisions rather than the way they think and feel - their inner workings are rarely revealed to us. It's a delicate touch, but could be taken as distant.
