Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey
Another word I would use to describe this book is clumsy. We aren't allowed close enough to peril. McCaffrey has an epic storyline which shouldn't have been shoehorned into just one book. After all, the characters solve a riddle involving thousands of disappearing dragons. That deserves more of a build-up, doesn't it?
