The Defiant Heir by Melissa Caruso
Although this wasn't a planned trilogy, I found I enjoyed the sequel even more than the first book. Caruso is a master of intrigue, I love her prose and although YA fiction can be a bit on the nose, Kathe has become one of my favourite fictional characters ever. He's a masterpiece.
