Onyx and Ivory by Mindee Arnett
A pleasure to see how the parts fitted together, and how the main characters matured. Backstories and magic systems were introduced without paragraphs of rules of flashbacks. Some aspects of the ending felt rushed, but 90% of the book was absolutely brilliant.
- Don't bother with the sequel. It's awful.
