Crush the King by Jennifer Estep
Jennifer Estep repeated herself. And again. And again. The book's far too long, lots of ideas are recycled and I'm left wondering if the main character is truly invincible. At least the side characters had (slightly!) more to do this time?
But there's something that frustrates me. I don't think you can create a fantasy world then expect me to believe that they drink Sangria and Cheddar cheese there. These things are named after real places they were /are made. *facepalm* Also, they have trains?!
If it's steampunk, go all out. If it's gladiator, swords and mayhem, do that. If you're going to mix them, give me a strong reason to believe it works. Don't just give me Cheddar cheese and fistfights.
