JE Dec’24 “Uneven, fun” [24]

Twin Crowns by Catherine Doyle and Katherine Webber The two sisters were an interesting contrast to each other. It felt a little as if theirs were the only fully fleshed out characters, but the overarching story worked well. I can easily predict the future arcs, but it’s a fun and generally uplifting journey. Followed by Cursed Crowns Warning : some swearing, steamy romance

JE Nov'23 "Immersive" [38]

Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen I loved the culture embedded in this book. Anchored in the beauty of traditional African folklore, Bowen explores justice, fear, beauty, shame and identity. It's richer and more nuanced than the original fairytale - much more than a love story! (And I highly recommend the audiobook) Continue the story with Soul of the Deep Warning : suicide ideation, enslavement, violence

JE Nov'23 "Story of understanding" [30]

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson Increasingly complicated. I enjoyed the essence of the story, and Sanderson always picks out potent threads of humanity and grace. It's so beautiful to see the characters learn and grow, but the twist left me scratching my head. I'm taking away the scattered pearls of wisdom and leaving the confusion. Part of the Cosmere (if you haven't heard of this, you'll need at least a day to read up).
