It's very much the first half of the story, divided from the second part like the isle of Cadence is divided. Stylistically, this works perfectly. It was the characters more than the mystery which drew me in.

P.S. I feel the book should have a different title. A title should prepare readers for theme, plot and tone not just underline a critical plot point.
