I was never sure where this story was going - it felt like a heist, interrupted by a gothic arc, historical revolution then a subplot with mages! Genuinely unpredictable... I liked the feminist touch - no, women aren't always sneaking off to meet lovers! - and the honest assessment of the revolution, but found the wavering of Eleanor's alignment confusing. What on earth is going to happen in the next book?!
