Knowing it's a modern classic now, I went in with dubious expectations. The book was good enough to make The Gilded Wolves and Into the Crooked Place pale in comparison (this is how you do heists, folks). The problem was that I didn't care enough about the characters. Bardugo ticks every theoretical box and yet I was still not completely on board. Maybe because I'd seen a butchered version on Netflix?
