Silence and Shadow by Erin Beaty
I enjoyed this sequel - the characters are more mature and the magic is fleshed out. The setting for this book isn't quite as strong, though the culture is still interesting to explore. Unfortunately, like the first book, key plot points are predictable and some things hang together very tenuously. It mostly works.
