Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross
Wow. This book blew me away. It's beautiful, joyful and gut-wrenching. Ross captures the precarious feeling of life in the midst of war and she twists your heart with the visceral way the characters grow and learn through loss. The running jokes (Roman 'Competitive' Kitt) are like jewels in a darkening world - the banter shines brighter for the backdrop of near-constant fear. It's lyrical, dramatic and a must-read. (Though beware the cliffhanger!)
