I knew this was going to be a difficult book to read - for all the right reasons. There's tension and heartbreak and courage and desperation. The atmosphere and uncertainty of living in a war-torn country where you could be bombed, your loved ones lost and old ways of life destroyed is (again) brilliantly portrayed. It's a beautiful, bittersweet read.
