JE Feb'24 "Feral, political mishmash" [20]

The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid

The story begins as a fairytale, morphs into a quest - only to swerve into Jewish politics and the fight against racism. It's very strange... The book carries an undercurrent of unease and futility (Reid is a master of atmosphere) but the characters weren't particularly likeable. I forced myself to finish it - and it was kind of satisfying in the end - but I still vastly preferred A Study in Drowning.

Warning: violence, self harm, mild sex, racism, present tense
